Hyundai gives Sonata a makeover:
For the 2009 model year, Hyundai has given an extensive facelift to the Sonata sedan.A revamped engine range includes a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder with a 175 hp--13 hp more than the outgoing I4engine. The 3.3-liter V6 is also improved with a new variable intake system for a 15 hp jump in power. Both engines also get better fuel economy.
Handling characteristics improve for the Sonata's GLS and Limited trims, with bigger front suspension bushings, stiffer rear springs, shocks and thicker sway bars.
Performance-oriented SE versions receive an exclusive sport-tuned suspension with stiffened suspension and 17-inch wheels. All models get a quicker steering rack ratio for more responsive steering feel.
Exterior styling is heavily revamped with new front and rear designs. The overhaul includes bumpers, lights, grille, chrome molding and rim designs.
The redone cabin has a more upscale appeal, borrowing design inspiration and materials from the Veracruz sport/utility. A new center console and instrument stack design includes dual-zone climate controls, two-stage front seat heaters and USB/iPod connections. Touch-screen navigation is now an option.
The 2009 Sonata goes on sale at the end of February.
