Nissan Delivers Strong Market-Share Gain in July 2008

FRANKLIN, Tenn., Aug. 4 -- Sales of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles took an 8.4 percent share of the U.S. market in July, a 2 percentage-point gain over June and the highest monthly market share in at least 28 years.

Combined July sales for Nissan North America's two divisions amounted to 95,319 vehicles, up 8.5 percent compared with July 2007 and up 25.7 percent compared with June 2008.

Overall, U.S. auto industry sales declined 13.2 percent last month compared with a year before, making last month the worst July in U.S. vehicle sales in 25 years.

"The industry is under tremendous pressure and it's good to see our results are up in a down market," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, marketing and sales. "The bulk of our sales increase came from vehicles with fuel-efficient, four-cylinder engines, including Versa, Sentra, Altima, Rogue and the Frontier truck."

In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing. Nissan is dedicated to improving the environment under the Nissan Green Program 2010, whose key priorities are reducing CO2 emissions, cutting other emissions and increasing recycling.
